HANNA + JAKE
Wanha Bäckby Häät | Pyhän Laurin Kappeli Vihkiminen |
Covering Hanna and Jake’s wedding has been one of the highlights of last summer for me. They are a gorgeous couple to work with. Moreover, Hanna wore a cape veil – something I’ve been dying to photograph. But best of all, they got married at the most beautiful chapel I know. I had to pinch myself thought the day, how could it be all really happening?!
We took portraits before the ceremony, which meant we had plenty of time for all sort of creative shots. This wedding was a feast for my architect soul.
Pyhän Laurin Kappeli Vihkiminen
I love everything about the St. Lawrence chapel, but specifically the concept, the materials, the interior design, the light, the art. This building by Avanto Architects is the winning proposal in a 2003 open architectural competition. Built with plastered brick and patinated copper, and featuring wooden furniture, the St. Lawrence chapel also won the European Copper in Architecture Awards.
For over a decade I have wished to photograph a wedding in this beautiful Finnish chapel. But there is a big catch: this place was specifically designed as a dedicated cemetery chapel. Hence, there are no weddings here.
When Hanna wrote me about her ceremony at St. Lawrence chapel, I completely overlooked what she wrote. I thought – surely she meant the nearby old St. Lawerence church. That is where all the weddings take place. I can not tell you how overjoyed I was to learn that her wedding ceremony was in fact taking place inside the chapel.
We took all the portraits before the ceremony, having plenty of time to make creative use of all those awesome spaces outside and inside the Saint Lawerence chapel. And I probably had to pinch myself thought the entire shoot. Could it be real?
If you love modern architecture and would like to get married in a unique location, choose me to cover your wedding. You’d have the most dedicated photographer covering your day.
Wanha Bäckby Häät
If you’re looking for a beautiful, light, minimalist wedding venue in Helsinki region, Wanha Bäckby is the one. Because it is not situated in the city center, your guests won’t have a problem finding a parking spot. Moreover, it has its own garden. And, what’s maybe best of all, the food here is absolutely delicious.
I’ve photographed several weddings at Wanha Bäckby, and I can never have enough. This place is wonderful any time of the year. If you’re planning to get married here, get in touch, I’d love to talk about your wedding.
