Wieke and Keith are a Belgian – American couple who met in the States at iHop where Keith was a leader. They planned an international wedding in Belgium, in a small town close to Bruxelles.
When they started telling me about their plans, I thought it was the most surprising coincidence how their wedding, scheduled for the weekend after I was presenting my master’s thesis in Architecture (at Aalto University in Finland, where I graduated from later in the autumn), was taking place at a venue called De Architect. Therefore, it felt like it was meant for me to be there, part of their day.
Also, because they were planning for an international wedding, they specifically wished for a destination wedding photographer, sensing that “this will add to the international aspect of our wedding.” I’ve covered many international weddings, and I much enjoy working with international couples, so it was a blessing to get to know Wieke and Keith and document their day. Their wedding ceremony was very special and touching, I felt honoured to have witnessed that.
Wieke and Keith’s favourite memory of the day was the ceremony.
“For me it was so precious and special standing there seeing all my friends and family that have traveled all over the world to be there to celebrate me and Wieke. I felt so loved seeing all my friends and family and seeing their emotions as they celebrated me and Wieke is something I will never forget. Just standing there with Wieke and being with her being able to read my vows and feeling the presence and delight of the Lord over me and us is for sure the best memory.” Keith
After the ceremony, we escaped together with the wedding party to a nearby castle, Gaasbeek Castle. We took advantage of its gorgeous gardens and took all the portrait photos there. And I could not help but wonder how a wedding at Gaasbeek Castle would look like, because the place was fabulous.
After the photo session at Gaasbeek Castle, we returned to Feestzaal De Architect. De Architect Feestschuur is a lovely festive venue in Lennik, a small town south of Bruxelles. It is perfect for intimate weddings and other small events.

” We were both looking for someone that we felt really took an interest in us and who we are as a individuals and a couple. Someone that wouldn’t be doing it as a job. This, along with knowing you being a fellow believer, made it really special for us to have you photograph our wedding.
We both simply just wanted someone that could capture us. You really did that. The thing we both enjoyed most was how you could be very blunt and straightforward and fun at the same time! Weike and I felt loved and cared for in the way you would be so straightforward knowing that you were respecting and caring for us in that. You were very personable and fun! We both really enjoyed you!
We are both very satisfied with the images. Our parents also loved them, and can’t stop looking at them.
You did an amazing job Maria!” – Wieke and Keith
