Nordic Design Wedding Editorial

There is beauty in simplicity.
Minimalism is not about eliminating details, it is about intentional design.

Inspired by the beauty of simplicity, Helsinki wedding photographer Maria Hedengren together with floral designer Maja Lehtinen of Little Wedding Factory, created this exclusive editorial for Häät magazine which focuses on modern minimalist design.

This wedding inspiration editorial focuses on light, textures, and organic beauty. Negative space, muted colors, effortless design all blended into a neutral foundation for the creative team to work with. The neutral colour palette features an abundance of white, with accents of spring greenery, creating a soft and airy look.

What is minimalist Nordic wedding design?

A Nordic wedding is a ceremony and celebration that focuses on simplicity. There is an emphasis on quality over quantity, and on achieving the look of a well-thought-out affair without all of the fuss of more traditional weddings. Minimalist weddings focus on essential elements such as the ceremony, the food, and the decor, while eliminating extraneous elements that can take away from the overall aesthetic.

The goal is to create an event that looks and feels polished without being over the top. An intimate atmosphere shaped by being surrounded by good friends and the closest family.

To achieve this look, start by selecting a limited color palette. Stick to two or three colors that complement each other and use them throughout the ceremony and reception.

How do you make a minimalist wedding stand out?

Foremost, it is about being very intentional about the design.

A clean look means that all design elements stand out and bring more meaning to the setting. A minimalist design for the wedding ceremony brings focus on the couple. A minimalist tablescape enables that natural beauty and the light of the venue to shine through.

Location.

A blank canvas wedding venue with lots of white space and large windows is the perfect fit for a Modern Minimalist wedding. Fresh floral installations look incredible against a plain white wall, and they make the most gorgeous backdrop for the ceremony and for your photographs.

Flower design.

Little Wedding Factory’s floral design elevated the space with an organic floral installation that marks the modern minimalist theme with a fresh take, and blended well with the mood of the day.

In small arrangements, soft sweet peas and delicate spring blooms brighten the table with their elegant, delicate lines, subtly sweet scents, and soft white tones. The flowers’ rarity (they are only available for a very short time during the spring season) adds to their gracefulness and strong presence.

Bridal Style.

Monique Lhuillier’s monochrome Bloom gown adds a contemporary touch to the wedding styling. The dress’ design focuses on alluring femininity and glamour, capturing the essence of sophisticated fashion. The dress features luxe fabrics, premium detailing and textures, a romantic neckline, off-shoulder ruffled sleeves, inspiring a fresh feminine playfulness.

To complement the Modern Minimalist theme as well as the ruffled contemporary dress, the bride’s styling by MAJ features an effortless minimalist look, with flawless clean makeup and a messy up-do hairstyle.

Groom Style.

Minimalist groom style is about monochrome basic colors and luxury textures.

Complementary design elements.

How to achieve the perfect Nordic design wedding vibe –

– Find a venue that is a blank canvas: one with lots of light, functional space, and with minimal décor;
– Stick to a cohesive, minimal color scheme;
– Make considered choices when it comes to furniture and styling (avoid anything that is overly ornate or excessive. Instead, focus on clean lines and simple shapes);
– Keep floral arrangements simple for a beautifully curated look; (Japanese-style Ikebana flower arrangements are intentionally minimalist)
– Incorporate organic elements: greenery, linens, ceramic, metal;
– Suspend your ceremony backdrop from the ceiling using clear fishing line to create the illusion that it’s floating, and eliminate bulky items from the arrangement, like a standing structure;
– Choose simplified typography and neutral colors for your wedding invitations;
– Be selective when it comes to accessories and decorations.
