When Rabbe told me about his proposal to Jonna, it was one of the coolest and funniest proposal stories I’ve heard. His plan was to take her sailing and camping on a small island on the Ostrobothnian coast, and to propose to her there. But he was so nervous about it all, he forgot the camping gear.

When I heard the story, I instantly new we needed to sail back to that island for their pre-wedding photos.

Sailing Pre-Wedding Session

Our plan was to sail out to the same island where Rabbe proposed, take some photos, and return in the afternoon. Rabbe packed freshly backed buns and a bottle of homemade juice. It was meant to be a 2-3 hour sail.

The boat we used was Rabbe’s family’s ALMA, a big old fishing boat fitted with sails and a motor. We sailed for a good bit, but the wind stopped and we decided we should probably use the motor if we are to make it to the island in time. But the motor would not start. And the funny thing was – Rabbe had just taken my husband and kids on a shorter sail that morning, and the motor was working fine then! At this point the wind stopped almost completely, we were not sailing anywhere.

We shared the picnic on the boat, drifted at sea enjoying the sunset, and then rowed ourselves back. We probably took turns rowing this big boat back for a couple of hours! The day turned out a lot more adventurous than we had planned. But it also turned out a lot more special. And the photos we ended up with are one of my favorite series I have yet taken.
